Since "this issue" -meaning allowing equal rights for all citizens- is coming up in bill form in New York state I thought this video I put on my Facebook page was appropriate to the blog.
There is the CONSTANT argument that marriage should only be between one man and one woman and that it has been this way for OVER 5000 happy, happy YEARS!!
For 5000 years all straight marriages stayed intact and ALL marriages produced kids which, of course, is the purpose. And all kids were brought up in happy, sane, safe male/female households. Now gays want to come in and ruin all that harmony by asking for equal rights (hospital visitation, Social Security benefits, inheritance, tax considerations, etc.).
So New York call your Senator and ask that equal rights for all is the norm in New York state.

Marriage for any reason besides economic or division of labor is only in the last 150 years, and it could be argued that without economic imperatives heterosexual marriages have lost their function, which is why marriage rates are declining and divorces increasing. So gay marriage could only strenthen the institution, actually.
And besides, people have done all kinds of idiotic things for thousands of years. It doesn't mean they're right or we can't change them.
