I started a new business. I am playing bagpipes for hire in New York City. What a great way to do what I love - meet people and see New York, while making some money.
The website is www.bagpipesnyc.com

Ace Hotel -New York
I just found my new favorite place to be a slacker, but look like I am a player. It is the lobby of the Ace Hotel on West 29th St.
I had a meeting and this is where she chose to meet. I walked in and the lobby is like a cool library with free wireless and loads of people who don't need to be in low lighting on Mac computers (only Macs, please darling).
A guy with his first beard walked by carrying a skateboard.
They serve only Stumptown Coffee. Cool.
I can see myself dressing, dragging my computer up here, jockeying for library table space and drinking a Kenya Gaturiri Reserve and writing something pithy. Or maybe sending emails to people who like to get them. Or looking at the J Crew website and thinking maybe I should work at J Crew.

Paris New York
Saw this at Broadway and 29th and it reminded me so much of Paris but then there was that giant Empire State Building that reminded me so much of, well, New York. Gosh I love both places. Maybe when I am blue I will come stand on this corner. And make some money.
All About Me
Besides being the title of my life right now, it is the title of a new Broadway review starring Michael Feinstein and Dame Edna.
I have to say I still don't get the pairing, but it was a fun night. They are both talented. But then so are Ellen DeGeneres and Yo Yo Ma.
I always say you can't go wrong with some tap dancing and a kick line. This show did not have either, but it had a sing-a-long. And freebies thrown out into the audience.
It is hard to go wrong with a sing-a-long and freebies. Must remember this for my next job interview.
See, I made this entry really all about me...

Coffee with a Friend
Had coffee with another guy who has been out of work for a long time. Is this healthy for us types to even be together? I mean do we support, encourage or just commiserate? Is commiserating a good thing? I think it used to be, but not anymore. He can't get arrested in New York either. And he has loads of fantastic credits and if it is possible to believe he is much nicer than I!
We met at Pain Quotidian. The one at 58th and 6th. Charming place to drop a tenner on coffee and a thing.
Here is what I gleaned:
It sucks out there.
There are no jobs.
It is going to be a long while yet.
Everyone working is like twelve.
Enjoy your life somehow.
I had an apple tart because I thought it was somewhat healthy.

In Like a Lion
March. What to make of it? How can this be, this March thing? I have just been settling into 2009 and now you want me to embrace this final month of the first quarter of 2010?
There is still snow in patches on the ground in New York. The sun wrestles with the clouds. I am still in my heavy coat though I may not need it so much.
Seems most folk are ready for Spring - the lamb part. I am (not so) secretly pressing the gods for more snow! More lion!! I love this flaky, white pure goodness that blankets all the errors and messes. I want MORE! What is the rush for Spring when we can have more time frolicking in a winter wonderland? Why the rush people?
New York is so beautiful in winter. Its trees and monuments and windowsills lend so well to snow. I know they lend well to tulips and general flowering as well, but just not yet.
No matter, weather is another thing I apparently do not control so I will try to enjoy whatever it offers.
